T.I. Dynamic Facades is the Choice for Lancaster University
T.I. Dynamic Facades’ single skin Terracotta Rainscreen system has been used to complete the demanding architectural design of the new Postgraduate Statistics Centre (PSC) Building at Lancaster University.
Involved with the project from specification, T.I. Dynamic Facades recommended the single skin system and adaptive rail to realise the architectural vision of a continuous plank effect for the south elevations of the PSC Building.
Specialist façade installers, McVeigh Insulations, used an adaptive carrier rail without a centre joint profile, leaving just 2mm between each 750mm x 225mm single skin terracotta Rainscreen tile. This provided the seamless finish of longer tiles without the associated transportation and installation challenges. In total, the single skin Terracotta Rainscreen tiles in a stylish dark grey colour, covered 418m2 of the PSC Building.

The ease of installing the system using T.I. Dynamic Facades’ carrier systems streamlines the whole process, enabling us to complete the installation within the required timescales.”
As well as meeting the architectural demands for the exterior envelope, the lightweight design of the single skin Terracotta Rainscreen system was ideal for the structural timber construction method used for the building. Weighing an average of 10kg less per square metre than traditional offerings, the façade system was installed onto the structural insulated panels (SIPs) using the adaptive carrier rail.
