Innovative Products Awards 2008 - Aerolite - the fusion of stone and technology

A lightweight stone façade system, Aerolite makes traditionally premium natural stone facings more affordable by reducing the amount of material required and increasing the efficiency of the installation.

Compared with traditional stone cladding systems, where the material has to be approximately 40mm thick to deliver the required performance, Aerolite enables the stone to be sliced to between 6mm and 15mm thick. Weighing just 35kg/m2, the strength of the system is achieved by bonding the stone to an Aerolite reinforced glass fibre, aluminium or honeycomb backing, depending on the type of facing being used.

Using a vertical carrier from the T.I. Tracking range, Aerolite can be installed as either a rainscreen or closed joint façade. Engineered with ease of use in mind, the T.I. Tracking rail eliminates the need for specialist stone masons on-site, reducing labour costs.

Aerolite retains the aesthetic properties expected of a stone façade, with a wide choice of stone facing options, such as granite and British stone, as well as polished, honed, sanded and flamed finishes.

Aerolite natural stone has been tested at Taylor Woodrow Technology Centre to CWCT guidelines for wind loading and impact testing and has been shown to meet BS Standards.
